Recycling Today for Tomorrow

The recycling industry, like many businesses, took a lot of bumps and bruises and faced many challenges during the pandemic but the recycling industry and the American people have weathered the storm.  Per Heidi Brock, President and CEO of American Forest and Paper Association, Paper Recycling has been and continues to be an environmental success story because of innovation, investment, and public engagement.  Data shows that nearly two-thirds of paper used in the US in 2020 was recycled, including 89% of all cardboard boxes.  Furthermore, more than 94% of all Americans have access to community drop off centers or curbside recycling programs.  Some are still work in progress, but the act has been initiated and steps to improve are always in constant motion.  Ms. Brock also mentions that data shows that the recycling industry recycles nearly twice as much paper today as we did a few decades ago. This is all good, but we need to always keep in mind to continue to do our part at work and at home every day.
